# Title American Alligator "Okefenokee Joe" Description "Okefenokee Joe" (a.k.a. "Oke Joe"), a very old American Alligator (Alligator mississippiensis), rests in a water hole. Joe, who had scar tissue over his eyes, lived near the visitor center at Okefenokee Swamp Park. Joe died in 2021 of old age (about 80 years). He measured 11 feet, 5 inches long and weighed about 400 pounds, "making him the largest alligator tagged by the Coastal Ecology Lab in Okefenokee Swamp."
